Detective Stephanie Lazarus of the LAPD has been charged with a 23 year old murder case involving the death of nurse Sherri Rasmussen. Rasmussen was the wife of Detective Lazarus' ex-boyfriend and the murder was originally thought to have been robbery related.
Here, Stephanie Lazarus is lured to an interview room under the guise of helping fellow officers solve an "art theft" crime (her specialty), only to learn that she is a suspect in the 80's murder:
I can't help but being struck with how absolutely nervous and shaken she is when the subject of the interview turns to the unsolved murder. Before the interview took place, police had already tied her to the crime via modern DNA evidence as a result of a bite sustained by Rasmussen during the attack. Detective Lazarus is asked during a later portion of the interview if she will voluntarily provide a DNA sample, to which she replies "I don't know...Maybe".
